Whatever happened to this little-known 6.6-litre V8 diesel supercar?

What is it?

Underneath a part Weismann, part 1990s TVR-looking body, it’s 2005’s sports car of the future: powered by diesel. Remember diesel? Remember Trident? Well, one’s a low CO₂ fuel with exceptional torque and range, and the other is a defunct British sports car maker revived in the late 1990s.

Did they build any?

A handful of coupes, roadsters and even a model estate version were constructed for motor show visits, but we’ve never been able to ever actually drive one. A shame, since the specs were tasty: a 6.6-litre V8 turbodiesel good for over 650bhp and 1,000lb ft, with 1,000 miles of range, 60+ mpg and a 190mph top speed.

Where is it now?

Last we heard (in 2017) Trident was switching its focus from diesel (in the wake of VW spoiling the party) to hydrogen powertrains, but no more prototypes seem to have emerged.
