Alfa Romeo has doubled down on its awkward naming of the Tonale SUV by revealing a new Ingroné special edition.
When the car was launched some commentators suggested the company might want to reconsider the name as Tonale sounded 'too much like toenail'.
But Alfa Romeo has dismissed that notion altogether, and the arrival of the Ingroné in the UK has underlined its commitment to selling a car that makes customers' skin crawl at the very mention of it.
A spokesperson for the Italian firm said: "We're fed up of anonymous Twitter users making fun of our most important product. So we've announced the Tonale Ingroné to show that we won't be bullied.
"I don't care that dealership visitors would rather not think about fungal infections when harmlessly looking at a small crossover.
"Would you rather buy a Mokka instead? Go on. I dare you."
Order books for the Tonale Ingroné are open now, with production limited to 1,000,000 units.
Based on the existing Veloce trim, the Ingroné adds foot spas in the passenger footwells, while the drivers’ pedals have been capped with pumice stones to ensure calloused skin is removed on every journey.
The owner of a Ford Probe commented: "For the love of God, don't do it to yourself. You'll regret it forever."
