Ferrari has downgraded its LaFerrari to ‘aFerrari’ following the reveal of its successor, the stunning new F80.
Despite heralding its arrival back in 2013 as the pinnacle of Ferrari’s technical and engineering knowhow, its successor’s advanced and superior abilities has now demoted what was once referred to as ‘The’ definitive Ferrari to a regular hypercar.
Maranello is now in the process of contacting owners who own one of the 499 V12 masterpieces to politely inform them their car is now inferior.
“Well, this is a bit awkward,” an insider admitted. “Yes, we made a big song and dance about LaFerrari defining everything we know about high performance road cars as well as it being the ‘benchmark’ for all hypercars, which is why we went and added the ‘The’ in front of the name.
“And it was the benchmark. For a bit.
“But now, because we’re Ferrari, we’ve gone and done something even better. And that means the ‘The’ Ferrari isn’t the ‘The’ Ferrari anymore – that’ll be the amazing new F80 – but just another Ferrari, which means it’s still better than 99 per cent of stuff you see, ahem, prancing about in the world.
“However, because we’re Ferrari, we’ve got a supremely elegant solution. We’re just going to very carefully and subtly remove the ‘L’, and bingo – ‘aFerrari’.”
