The Donkervoort P24 RS is a 780kg lightweight with a 600bhp V6

Dutch firm swaps Audi’s five-cylinder for a twin-turbo V6. Power steering and ABS still optional

Donkervoort claims its new P24 RS is “the most Dutch supercar ever created”, which we can only assume means it likes to wear orange and shout DU DU DU DU, MAX VERSTAPPEN on weekends.

Apparently, it’s also something to do with the Dutch reputation for “honest, unfiltered feedback”, with Donkervoort describing its new supercar as a “direct counterpunch to a computerised, homogenous automotive world”. Ouch.

So yes, despite all the exposed carbon, the funky pop-out LED headlights and the futuristic bug-like looks, the P24 RS is a decidedly old-school thing. Big engine up front, five-speed manual gearbox in the middle and all of the drive to the rear wheels. Heck, even power steering and ABS are optional.

They’re boxes we’d probably consider ticking on the configurator though, because at the heart of the P24 RS is a modified version of Ford’s 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 with forged internals, dry-sump lubrication, 3D-printed exhaust manifolds and two new turbos from fellow Dutch firm Van der Lee. The result is a ludicrous 600bhp, although Donkervoort’s ‘Power To Choose’ management software does allow you to dial that down to either 400bhp or 500bhp when you’re feeling particularly sensible. The previous Donkervoort F22 used Audi’s 2.5-litre turbo five-cylinder and maxed out at 500bhp.

In full Verstappen mode (sadly not its official name), the P24 RS also makes 590lb ft of torque, and thanks to a dry weight of just 780kg it’ll do 0-124mph in 7.4 seconds, pull 2.3G through corners and top out at over 186mph. Yeesh.

Thankfully an adjustable traction control system is standard fit, and there’s a Torsen limited-slip differential, active suspension with adjustable ride height, and auto rev matching to smooth out your downshifts. Although yes, you can turn the latter off to show off your own heel-and-toe prowess.

Taking your Donkervoort on track? Carbon ceramic brakes that save 2.1kg per corner are another option, and the P24 RS also comes with a removable aero kit that enhances cooling and directs air around the exposed front wheels or under the floor towards the double diffuser. The result is a car with a massive chin, but also an extra 90kg of downforce at 155mph with no effect on the top speed.

Worth noting the P24 RS also gets a carbon fibre targa roof, although even with the panels in place we’re told that a 6ft 7in driver will fit behind the wheel. Handy when most Dutch people reach that height before puberty. There’s also Ford Fiesta levels of boot space, lightweight Recaro seats and an interior that’s dominated by physical buttons and dials.

Just 150 examples of the P24 RS will be hand-built in Lelystad, and more than 50 have already been sold to customers in Europe, the US and the Middle East. Best stump up the €298,500 asking price quickly, then.
