McLaren: ‘we’re not in talks with Apple over investment’
McLaren denies involvement following Financial Times report on potential takeover
McLaren has denied any involvement with Apple over a potential takeover.
Earlier today, the Financial Times reported that Apple had approached the Woking company over an investment or potential takeover.
Negotiations were reported to have begun many months ago, with the deal focusing on McLaren’s technology and engineering expertise.
But speaking to TopGear.com, McLaren Automotive – part of the McLaren Technology Group – said: “We can confirm that McLaren is not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment.”
The benefits of any potential investment or takeover for Apple are plentiful: McLaren has expertise in carbonfibre technology, engineering and computer systems, which would no doubt benefit the Californian giant’s long-rumoured interest in building its own electric vehicle.
The FT report however, did note that it was still unclear whether a deal would go ahead.
