The very last Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ has been delivered

Earlier this month we brought you news of Bugatti Chiron production winding down in a flurry of gold bling, now the 300mph-conquering Super Sport 300+ is doing the same in an abundance of exposed carbon fibre.

Yep, less than three years after breaking the magical triple-ton barrier with a run of 304.77mph at Ehra-Lessien, Bugatti has found homes for all 30 of the production cars it promised off the back of that success.

And as with all 29 of the examples that went before it, this last one follows the same recipe with a tuned version of Bugatti’s 8.0-litre W16 pumping out 1,578bhp. Oh and some go-faster Jet Orange accents, obviously.

Making the standard Chiron a 300mph-breaker wasn’t just a case of fettling the engine though, oh no: if you remember engineers had to design a whole new thermal management system for the engine and gearbox, as well as new software to manage all of the main components.

It’s 25cm longer than a ‘normal’ Chiron too, with the ‘Longtail’ body reducing the aerodynamic stall at the rear and making the 300+ even slipper. Air curtains on each corner disperse excess air pressure at high speed, with outlets on the wheelarches reading drag and generating a small (but very welcome) amount of negative lift.

Mustn’t forget the weight-saving either: even the windscreen wiper is made from carbon fibre.

“In the long history of Bugatti, there are vehicles that come to define their era,” said Bugatti president Christophe Piochon. “The Type 35 transformed motor racing, the Type 41 Royale redefined opulence, the Type 57 SC set new standards for design, and now there is the Chiron Super Sport 300+, hitting speeds that were long thought to be impossible in a production car.

“Its achievements have secured it legendary status in the Bugatti history books, and we’re delighted to have seen all 30 examples of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ delivered to some of our most passionate customers.”

What’s next for Bugatti now that 300mph has been ticked off the bucket list? We should know more when that partnership with Rimac starts bearing fruit…
