What the heck? *Convertible* version of Toyota Century SUV teased
The possibilities are… ‘open’, according to Toyota. Arf arf
Conventional car wisdom would suggest launching a convertible version of an SUV is what marketing types call an ‘unprogressable concept’ and what mere humans determine as a ‘bad idea’. And yet, if any car can make it work, surely it’s the indefatigable Toyota Century?
Behold: it is the indefatigable Toyota Century, fresh from its reinvention as a massive, plush SUV, sporting yet another guise as a massive, plush, convertible SUV.
No real mention has been made of the convertible Toyota Century SUV. In fact, no mention has been made of the convertible Toyota Century SUV, other than a cringeworthy pun during the reveal presentation in Japan and a shady teaser image.
“The opportunities are only limited by your imagination,” said Toyota’s Simon Humphries. “If you want to drive the vehicle yourself at the weekend the GRMN will certainly not disappoint.
“The possibilities are endless… and open to discussion,” he added.
TopGear.com is unsure whether this implies Toyota is open to discussing the idea of building a convertible Toyota Century SUV, or if the decision has already been made and the only discussion left is with your significant other/conscience.
Heck, we lived through the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet. Reckon the Century can make the ill-fated convertible SUV genre actually work?
