New issue out now: the full story of the all-new Bugatti Veyron
Plus, Noughties supercar bargains and The Stig goes off-roading
We suspect your reaction was the same as ours when you first heard Bugatti was building a homage to the Veyron based on Chiron oily bits. Modern resurrections are supposed to reach deep into the archive and bring old cars back to life... the Veyron might be 20 years old, but it still feels like a modern era car to us. Was this the moment when the retro craze jumped the shark?
Except when you see it up close, appreciate how it stands on its own two feet as a beautifully finished and proportioned bit of sculpture, and hear the stories and ideas that went into it, you can’t help but admire the audacity of it and the end result. Even if it cost the customer an obscene amount of money to realise.
Want all the gory details? The latest issue of Top Gear Magazine tells the full story, and we’ve also been digging in the archives to share how the original Veyron project very nearly crashed and burned. Click this link to have the latest issue delivered direct to your door. Or if you want even more from Top Gear magazine you can click here to start a subscription: it’s currently just £5 for your first five issues, after which you’ll get six issues for just £23.50. Bargain.
And on the subject of bargains, in this latest issue we’ve also picked out some used Noughties supercars that won’t cost as much as an original Veyron. In fact, some of these bedroom wall poster-worthy creations will now set you back as little as £20k. Just don’t mention the repair bills.
Want more? We’ve also sent The Stig off-roading in some brilliantly modified 4x4s, and we sat down with Ford boss Jim Farley to see just why his company is going racing in F1 with Red Bull. Plus, there’s drives of the new Lamborghini Temerario and the stunning Eagle Lightweight GTR. But can the latter win over an E-Type sceptic? Find out by grabbing your copy today.
