Ram has binned off its all-electric pickup truck because nobody wants it
Stellantis is apparently “reassessing its product strategy”, which means no room for a Ford F-150 Lightning rival
After years of teaser shots, concepts, and then an actual production car reveal at the New York Auto Show back in 2023, Ram has now completely cancelled its all-electric pickup truck. Doh!
“As demand for full-size battery electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup,” read a very brief statement from Ram.
As part of the ‘reassessment’, Ram’s range-extending plug-in hybrid version will drop ‘Ramcharger’ from its name and become the Ram 1500 REV. And yes, that is what the fully-electric one was going to be called.
You may remember the full EV was supposed to get twin motors, 645bhp and 620lb ft of torque, and a choice of either a 168kWh or 229kWh battery. Mahoosive. The plan was for it to be built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, and Ram had even gone as far as detailing all the different trim levels.
Clearly a last-ditch call to throw all of that hard work in the bin…
