The Nissan Kicks is coming to Europe… along with a new UK-bound Pixo city car

Nissan will bring a car called ‘Kicks’ to Europe… along with another Twingo-sized thing called ‘Pixo’. We’ll see the latter next week.

The former? Well, it’ll come as a shock that this car falls firmly into the category of ‘compact crossover’ – wonder if they’ll ever catch on? – motivated by Nissan’s ‘e-power’ hybrid drivetrain.

More importantly for UK PLC, it’ll be built in Nissan’s Sunderland plant, which celebrates 40 years of knocking out Nissans in 2026.

Kicks, huh. It’s already on sale elsewhere around the world and is currently in its second iteration. We’ve already driven it across the pond, dubbing it a ‘decently priced youthful crossover’.

E-power, huh. It’ll be the third-gen system launched last year, which pairs an electric motor with a petrol engine. It’s only ever motivated by the e-motor, mind – the ICE is just an onboard generator either directly powering that motor or recharging the battery. So you don’t ever have to plug it in.

Though Sunderland will definitely be plugged in. “Nissan has been at the heart of British manufacturing for four decades, with Sunderland producing millions of vehicles that supported thousands of skilled jobs and helped establish the North East as a global automotive powerhouse,” said the government’s business secretary Jonathan Reynolds.
