Volkswagen has sold out its ketchup in the US and… wait, what?
VW part number 00010 ZDK-259-101 finally makes it to US shores. Doesn’t last long…
You’re probably well aware by now that Volkswagen makes its own currywurst sausages. First created in 1973, only a handful of employees know the secret recipe – amazing when you consider it actually makes more sausages than it does cars.
However, did you know that VW also makes its own ketchup? Part number 00010 ZDK-259-101 has been used to dress the spicy sausage since 1996, and it is now available in the US for the very first time.
Well, it was. VW is celebrating its 75th anniversary in America this year, and it recently decided to make a limited batch of the Gewürz Ketchup available for free to US-based fans. Unfortunately, it was so popular it was all spoken for before we’d even learnt how to pronounce Gewürz.
Volkswagen was apparently inspired to bring the tomato sauce Stateside by Jamie Orr – an enthusiast who started bringing the ketchup back from Wolfsburg when visiting the VW HQ. Reckon its popularity might see VW import it on the regular?
