You can now order a right-hand drive Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the price of a BMW M4

Converted by Autogroup International, is this a 650bhp alternative to one of Europe’s premier two-door, four-seat sports cars?

Published: 24 Apr 2024

It’s hard to argue against the BMW M4’s credentials as a proper performance machine, but you might still struggle to see past that nostril-dominated face. So what if you wanted a similar two-door, four-seat sports car that loses the grille, ups the cylinder count and is more... American?

Autogroup International might have an answer, having now extended its right-hand drive conversion portfolio with the hardcore, chisel-bodied Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Provided you’re happy to take on an example that’s a few years old, you can even have one on your driveway for £75,000.

In exchange, you’ll get a 6.2-litre supercharged ‘LT4’ V8, producing a mammoth 650bhp (and similar torques) at the flywheel. For those who swallow brave pills every morning, a six-speed manual with Active Rev Match is also very much offered. You may need to swallow two brave pills before a Sunday morning hoon, though.

Naturally, there are some compromises required with the fit, finish and trimming in comparison to the M4’s interior. You will still get an eight-inch infotainment hub, wireless phone charger, head-up display and plenty of comfort, just not as much tech wizardry or carbon fibre as you do in its opposite number.

Will you really care when you’ve got a V8 soundtrack hurling you through spacetime for all of 30 minutes before needing another chug of petrol?
