Here are 10 used SUVs we found this week for less than a new Jaecoo 7
Looking for a family hauler but don’t fancy Chery’s latest? We’ve got you covered
Audi e-tron
Estates do the whole utilitarian thing just as well as SUVs, but if for some reason you have to go bigger, the e-tron is a good alternative to the J7. This one, with its 22in alloys and gloss black paint, looks truly menacing. You’ll see an estimated 226 miles of range from its 95kWh battery too, and get 402bhp to ferry you along in sufficient comfort.

More noise, you say? For a fiver below budget, here’s a shouty 5.0-litre V8-powered Range Rover Sport SVR instead. The black/white upholstery colour combination is a bit marmite, but the exterior still looks great for a car with 75,000 miles to its name. Best leave some change aside for insurance though, especially if you live in London. Actually, lots if you live in London.
BMW X5 M
Just like the Rangie, this third-generation X5 M also houses a V8. The key difference is a remap, which pushes it to over 700bhp as per the ad. There are lots of extras inside too, like a glass roof, carbon fibre trim and memory foam front seats.

You’ll struggle to get a range-topper that eats Lambos for lunch for this price, but a dual-motor ‘100D’ is still on the cards. Here’s one with both the 'Subzero Weather' and 'Towing' packs thrown in, plus bits of Alcantara leather to make the task of doodling on its 17in iPad-like touch screen that bit more relaxing.
Fisker Ocean
Or, if you fancy an EV that’s more powerful (564bhp), newer (2024) and cheaper (by six grand), why not take a punt on a Fisker Ocean? With the brand trying its best to escape bankruptcy, online marketplaces are awash with examples going for well under what they should, so this could be the opportune moment for you to nab a bargain. A handsome bargain too, given this car should be retailing for almost double what it is.
Porsche Macan GTS
It’s possible to get a ‘Turbo’ for under 30 grand, but we’ve opted for this slightly softer ‘GTS’ because the exterior speccing is close to perfect. The deep grey paint, red calipers and black BBS-style alloys come together really well on this shape, and then there’s the large open-top roof. It has character alright.
Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio
Oh yes. We tried hard to search for a sub-£30k Quadrifoglio, and to our surprise, there are some out there (here’s the proof). The headline stats are strong: 503bhp, 443lb ft, 0-62mph in 3.8s and a top speed of 176. But, more importantly, it’s a modern-age Alfa. That means you can actually depend on it.

A close relative to the Range Rover, given they essentially share powertrains, though the interior of this F-Pace is a little easier on the eye. It’s arguably the better looking of the two cars too, and won’t quite cost you an arm, a leg and a thousand hair follicles to insure.
Volvo XC90
You’ve got two good options here: a ‘T8’ or a ‘D5’. We’ve gone for the latter, and though an example like this is less powerful, the ‘R-Design’ suit is way fancier. The XC90 is probably the most sensible alternative to the Jaecoo 7 there is.

But this is Top Gear, and though we like sensible, we love wild. Here’s a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT that fits the bill for this week’s wildcard option, packing a 461bhp all-American V8 that shows absolutely no want for good manners and civilised behaviour. And though it’ll set you back £33k, you’re still two grand better off than a Jaecoo 7 with hybrid power.
