Here are eight very cool used performance estates we found for sale

Yes, there’s a fast Audi, but there’s also a mad HEMI-powered Chrysler, too

  1. Mitsubishi Evo IX wagon

    Mitsubishi Evo IX wagon

Not just a rare performance estate, but a rare performance car full stop. Built in a time when Mitsubishi was doing cool things, this one’s a minter: 2.0-litre blown four, six-speed manual, four-wheel-drive, big boot. As a JDM special, this one came to the UK in 2016, and has since had ‘extensive upgrades’ totalling £14k.

  2. Audi RS6 Avant

Of course there’d be an RS6 estate. This car practically defined the performance wagon genre, and the C5 is perhaps one of the coolest out there. You can thank Daniel Craig in Layer Cake for that. There’s a twin-turbo 4.2-litre V8 co-developed with Cosworth, something called ‘quattro’, and – as we found out on a retro test drive – a beguiling personality.

  3. BMW M5 Touring

    BMW M5 Touring

It’s an E60-generation BMW 5 Series estate with a massive V10 and rear-wheel-drive. You do not need any more information.

  4. Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon

    Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon

Not as thrusting as some of the stuff you’ve seen on this list, but infinitely cooler because Alfa. The 159 remains an utterly gorgeous car, especially so in estate form, and while the others offer stratospheric horsepower, this one’s 270bhp and six-speed ‘box are more than adequate. It’s also had a fair bit of work done. If that helps.

  5. Nissan Stagea Autech

    Nissan Stagea Autech

You can end the search: we’ve found the only performance estate you’ll ever need in this life or the next. It’s essentially an R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R wearing a boxier, estate body, and therefore it is a rabid, turbocharged 4WD rocketship. This one’s wearing a fair bit of modification, but it’s possibly the only one on sale in the UK.

  6. Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

    Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Of course there’d be a C63 estate. Especially the one with the mad, bad and very, very excellent 6.2-litre nat-asp V8. Worth picking up for that supernaturally loud engine alone. Likes to wag its tail and smoke through its tyres. Here’s a nice one we found.

  7. Chrysler 300C HEMI wagon

    Chrysler 300C HEMI wagon

Not the prettiest estate ever built, but it offers a particular brand of menace, is terrifyingly rare, packs a massive V8 and literally nobody else you know will ever own or covet one. So it’s rare. Really, really rare.

  8. Volvo 850 R

    Volvo 850 R

From when Volvos where designed with rulers rather than with focus groups, and when the ambition was to trade paint at Brands Hatch rather than swaddle you in comfort and annoying driver assistance. The one we found for sale is an import, but it’s green, looks clean and carries a punchy 2.3-litre.
