Here’s a rare, V6-engined used Ford Mondeo ST200 we found for £6k

The ST200 is 25 years old in 2024. Celebrate with this cheap, fast saloon

Published: 12 Aug 2024

Here is a proper race-car-for-the-road (sorta), resplendent in its official colours and bearing a 2.5-litre V6, for a frankly bargain price. The Ford Mondeo ST200 is 25 years old in 2024, so celebrate by bagging one for £6k.

Six grand! That’s cheaper than a luxury set of ‘Exclusiv’ Porsche alloy wheels! What you’re getting admittedly, isn’t Porsche levels of fast, but who cares when you’ve got a time capsule of (affordable) Nineties performance.

First revealed in 1998 and built in 1999 as a sportier version of the Mondeo ST24, the ST200 capitalised on the popularity of the then British Touring Car Championship.

Which meant over and above the regular Mondeo – once one of the most popular cars sold in Britain and a really good drive – it got sporty suspension, 17in alloys, Recaro seats and a hearty V6.

OK, not hearty in 2024’s overinflated world of eleventy-billion-horsepower city cars, but 201bhp from a 2.5-litre V6 was enough back in ’99. For a family car, anyway.

And sure, we’ve only found one for £6k – there’s another for just under double that – but it’s got history, it looks clean, and it looks ready to go. If nothing else, you’ll bring a smile to anyone old enough to remember these things flying across circuits in the BTCC.
