Need a seat? These 10 sub-£5k used cars have *very* comfortable ones
From storied Sierras and mile-munching Q7s to a very wild Renault-shaped wildcard, here’s our latest used car roundup
Mercedes-Benz R280
A car with an identity crisis, for sure. But the capacious cabin means there’s plenty of space for you to ponder exactly what segment this maligned Mercedes slots into, while enjoying those big ol’ seats. Which in this R280, have some fancy cloth applied across. Those seats are also heated and, in some examples, you even get a massage function.

As anyone with a passing interest in the let's say 'uniquely styled' S-Type can confirm, the seats are as comfortable as its face is let's say 'uniquely distressing' to look at. The seats are also pretty flexible, so you can easily roll them as far back as a Nineties RnB artist might. Here’s one for under £3.5k with cream seats and 48,000 on the clock.
Ford Sierra
Cars rarely come with cloth-coated seats these days. More often than not, it’s leather. Cloth may not feel anywhere near as luxurious, but with cars like this Sierra LX, you really won’t care. Not only are those velvety seats in great condition for a 33-year-old car, but they also look extremely buttock-friendly.

The buttock-friendliness continues with this Audi Q7, which, perhaps as a result of its buttock-clenching size, gets thick extra padding on the seats. OK, so they may not be in factory-fresh condition, but a few Sundays’ worth of elbow grease should see to that. Besides, the rest of the car does look mint.
Lexus GS
The seats in this GS look similar to those seen in the first-class cabin of a leading Airliner, and with as much space too. C’mon, it’s a big Lexus with cream seats and wood veneer; that’s the Urban Dictionary definition for ‘comfort’, and you know it.
Volvo XC60
Quite possibly the best all-rounder you can get for under five grand: they’re sturdy, practical and, above all else, extremely soft. OK, we agree the two-tone seat colour combination on this example is a bit marmite, but the rest of it is absolutely pukka.
Citroen C6
You'd buy one based on exterior design alone; the stylish interior is just a bonus. And want even more bonus? Given the C6 was essentially built to be a land yacht, those seats are… absorbent. So absorbent you may find yourself falling asleep at the wheel far too often. Here’s one for under £2.2k.

This fifth-generation 7 Series has done over 14,000 miles every year for 13 years straight. Presumably, most of those came on motorways, and we doubt that’d happen if it weren’t a properly cosy luxo-barge. Perhaps you’re the right person to add to its odometer count?
Range Rover Evoque
Isn’t it a bit wild that you can pinch an Evoque for under five grand nowadays? It may only be a baby Range Rover, but it still oozes class and comfort inside, exemplified by the padded, patterned, pure-grained leather seats on this example. Oh, and it’s done even more mileage than the Bimmer.

It’s rare, it’s high mileage and it’s about as big and as slouchy as a grizzly bear that wants a hug. The only catch is that you’ll need to trek to Normandy to get it. Oh, and it’s a left-hand drive. But what are those small inconveniences in exchange for a Renault Avantime?
