Video: how not to cross a pond

To achieve the status of Genuine Off-Road Enthusiast requires ownership of many driving accessories. At least two winches. Knobbly tyres. Big wellies. A moustache.

To this list we might add one more piece of must-have technical instrumentation: a big stick to measure water depth. Because, as this Russian gentleman will attest, underestimating the size of a body of water before taking the plunge can cause irreparable damage to your engine.

If, that is, you can even locate your engine. Which is a trifle tricky if it's just sunk, along with the rest of your 4x4, to the bottom of what appears to be the Mariana Trench's bigger, scarier brother. Anyone got a submarine?
