Watch Andy Wallace hit 282mph in a Bugatti Mistral... and find out what it feels like
There's more to just pointing it at the horizon and nailing it, especially on a cold, November day...
Ah November, the... perfect time to set a top speed world record. In a car with no roof. Yup, makes sense.
Especially when you remember this is no ordinary car, but a W16-engined Bugatti Mistral. The last Bugatti to use that incredible engine, able to power this black and orange one-off to an astonishing top speed of 282mph.
Top Gear was there to witness the attempt and speak to the main protagonists: hotshoe Andy Wallace, who reckoned the Mistral still had a bit left in the tank to go over 282mph, and the big boss Mate Rimac, who spoke about the magic number: 500kmh.
Plus, we had a little go in the one-off Mistral ourselves...
