The Tudor Black Bay Chrono Blue is a stunning stainless steel watch for under £5k

The 41-jewel, five-link watch has lots of blue colouring woven in to nod toward some Tudor classics

Published: 29 Aug 2024

Tudor has a long association with blue-coloured watches, and that association now continues with this: the Black Bay Chrono ‘Blue’. The ‘Tudor Blue’ shade used here is new, apparently, and is supposed to make this watch the natural successor to famous models like the ‘Montecarlo’ Oysterdale and the ‘Snowflake’ Submariner. Because… it's blue.

Key details of the Chrono include a satin-brushed, 41mm stainless steel case that’s paired up with an anodised aluminium tachymetric scale. Meanwhile, the dial has hallowed, silver sub-counters and steel pushers, with a total of 41 jewels dotted around to give it some proper bling.

There’s also a slightly unique twist to the overall layout, with the typical fixed crown sign positioned just below the 12-hour dial, and a date aperture in place of the six-hour one. We like.

And yes, there is a trickle of automotive crossover here too, as tends to be the case with Tudor’s products. With the Chrono, there’s an automatic manufacture calibre that’s got a column wheel and vertical clutch thrown on.

The five-link bracelet is said to have a 70-hour backup power reserve and requires no tools thanks to its rapid adjustment clasp and five-way position adjustability. It’s not like your regular five-quid watch can do that or anything. Oh, it’ll also stay waterproof at depths of up to 200 metres, so it should be OK at your local leisure centre.

Anyway, you’ll need £4.880 if you want to get one on your wrist, which is a few shillings more than the gorgeous MK2 Volkswagen Golf GTI we found earlier this week. Decisions, decisions…
