Kenny Brack battles Bruno Senna. At designing McLarens
Whizzy 600LT configurator allows you to take on two racing greats (ish)
Ordered your McLaren 600LT? If not, the 12-month production run is pretty much fully allocated too, so tough luck.
Never mind – you can now spend the next half an hour speccing your imaginary 600LT to your high – or low - standards on the online configurator . Get ready to drool over Alcantara… or squint in confusion at the four different shades of orange.
If you want an even better experience, McLaren has also introduced a 3D configurator inside its showrooms. Zoom, scroll and play with the real-time 3D rendering in whichever garish colours you like. McLaren's chief test driver (and racing ace) Kenny Brack said: “This is a great way to explore the specification of a car like the 600LT before finalising your choices.”
He would say that, of course, because he works for McLaren. Far more interesting is that he's shown us how it’s done, Brack taking to the configurator himself, choosing a Sicilian Yellow exterior, full Carbon Black Alcantara interior and blue six-point harnesses and coloured brake calipers. An interesting combo, but justified as he tried to give it the full Ikea (ie Swedish flag) effect. McLaren brand ambassador (and another racing ace) Bruno Senna also got his hands on the lunch-hour timewaster, choosing Burton Blue paint, McLaren Orange seatbelts and all-black everything else.
Us? Keen to finally have our chance to battle Brack and Senna on a level (ish) playing field, we had a go too. We started with a recognisable McLaren Orange exterior coat, with carbon fibre roof, door mirrors, front panelling and rear wing, plus gloss-black 10-spoke rims with McLaren Orange calipers, black alcantara interior and… McLaren Orange seatbelts. We like the McLaren Orange, okay.
But before long our fingers had wandered and we found ourselves pairing the MSO Yellow seatbelts with Mauvine Blue (ie, purple). And red seats.
Brack, Senna, or Team TG - which one floats your boat? If the answer's a resounding 'none of them', design your own here...
