We urgently need this Dacia Duster pick-up

Romania's got an adorable little two-seat Duster workhorse. The UK needs it NOW

Published: 22 Oct 2020

Well this is extremely good news. This is a tiny Dacia Duster pick-up, and suddenly we can’t think of anything we want more.

Yep, life isn’t all 331mph supercars and 1,000bhp EVs. Sometimes you just need an honest little workhorse to carry unfortunately shaped things with little fuss or fanfare.

It’s an official thing, too. Initially built by a third-party, Dacia itself has since taken the chopped-up Duster under its own wing. It’s previously offered the much larger, double-cab Duster Oroch pick-up, but here you trade the back seats for load space in an altogether titchier package. One we’re even more smitten by.

There’s just one engine choice – a 1.5-litre diesel with 113bhp – and one colour option. White, of course. It’s manual and all-wheel drive only, too. Like we said: an honest little workhorse. And one with 1,000 litres of carrying capacity in that modest little bed.

Sales are in Romania for now, where it starts at around £20,000 including taxes. Which sounds a lot when you can buy a basic Duster (albeit not diesel or 4x4) for a smidge under £12,000 in Britain, leaving plenty of change for an angle-grinder and some bandages. But that’s not to say we’re any less in love. Please bring it here, Dacia.
