Buying
What should I be paying?
Prices start at around £38,000 if you’re buying outright, but quickly spiral to well over £60,000. An RS5 is around £70,000.
In order from cheapest to most expensive, the line-up goes Sport, S Line, Black Edition and finally Vorsprung. The S5 and RS5 are separated out.
Sport does well for kit but can look a bit dowdy, which is no doubt why most people upgrade to S Line. Over and above Sport, S Line and Black Edition are chiefly cosmetic upgrades (though they do get the lower, stiffer suspension we talked about in the Driving section of this review and Audi’s clever ‘Matrix’ LED headlights).
Meanwhile Vorsprung is Audi code for fully-loaded – these A5s want for nothing, and come with most options pre-ticked, but they are incredibly expensive. As of August 2021, a 40 TFSI is around £41,000 in Sport spec, or an astonishing £54,000 in Vorsprung spec. See what we mean?
We’d be happy with a 40 TFSI in Sport trim, but would understand anyone who chose to upgrade to S Line for the better looks. Just be aware you’re trading ride quality.
Standard spec on Sport includes LED headlights, heated seats, three-zone climate control, the big infotainment system with Virtual Cockpit, cruise control and a rear-view camera.
