The CTS has been circling the edge of greatness for a few years now, but with the launch of this all-new car, it might just have hit the bullseye. Now longer, lower and leaner, it's a real rethink of the BMW 5-Series competitor based on the same sporty chassis as the smaller ATS.
The big news is the new CTS's lack of weight - some 110kg lighter than the equivalent Beemer - and the appearance of a new drivetrain option known as Vsport. This twin-turbo 420bhp V6 is the place-holding range-topper until the new CTS-V arrives sometime next year.
The other notable change is the completely revised interior, which is now right up to current luxury-car standards. Nothing has been left unchanged from the now primitive-looking current car. It needed to change, and it did.
On the road, the new CTS displays the kind of road manners and performance you could previously only get from a car made in the UK or Germany. A fabulously tight yet supple chassis and seamless unburstable drivetrain give you all the tools you need to have a great drive. It's quite possibly the best-handling mid-sized luxury car you can buy.
