Genesis GV70 Electrified review

Base petrol and diesel GV70s - both on their way to the history books - start from £48,955 and £52,645 respectively. Moving on.

The updated GV70 Electrified starts from £65,915. Sounds expensive comparatively, but it sits firmly in the middle of the Audi Q6 e-tron, BMW iX3 and Porsche Macan Electric, so it's on the money.

Tell me more about the ownership proposition.

The base Pure trim gets 19in alloys, heated steering wheel, front seats and wing mirrors, wireless charger, electric tailgate, fingerprint recognition, and the fancy Preview Electronic Control Suspension, which reads the road ahead to deliver a smoother ride.

Mid-spec Dynamic trim is priced from £70,715 and adds 20-inch wheels, head-up display, blindspot monitoring, as well as remote smart parking assist and forward and parking collision avoidance assist. All of which you can probably do without.

Top of the tree is Luxury trim, which starts from £74,915 and adds a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and active road noise cancelling. Again, more nice to haves than true essentials, but if it’s luxury you’re after…

You’ve also a number of option packs, including a £1,070 Comfort pack featuring Ergo Motion seats and massage function, a £260 Serenity pack which adds a UVC sterilised armrest box and an air aroma diffuser, and £890 vehicle-to-load pack, allowing you to power external devices.

Anything else I need to know before I brave the dealership?

Ah. Genesis doesn't really have those, it's big on shopping centre showrooms with the rest done online. In its continued attempts to conquer Europe, it's offering something it calls the Five Year Care Plan. This begins before you buy the car, when a ‘Personal Assistant’ will guide you through the process and deliver a car to your door for you to test drive.

Once you’ve bought the car, you get a five year warranty, five years of complimentary roadside assistance, five years of servicing – where Genesis will collect your car, drop off a courtesy car and then return it once everything is complete – and free over the air updates.

In the case of the Electrified model, you also get subsidised Ionity charging rates and a free home wallbox. This is supposed to be a proper luxury experience at a mid-level price point.
