Interior

What is it like on the inside?

The EV project’s moonshot graphics on the mats and speakers are all here to remind us again just how quickly the team designed and built the vehicles. As are the detachable translucent roof panels, which can be stowed in the frunk, giving the cabin a more spacious and airy feel.

All the switchgear, screens – complete with their game-inspired graphics – and seats are as per the pickup. So the main focus is the rear load area. This is accessed by a motorised, side-hinged door which opens and closes with the same leisurely certainty as a safe door. It can’t be much lighter than a vault door thanks to its size and with the spare wheel hanging off the back of it.

The 35.9cu ft (1,017-liter) load area is wide and flat, just like the rest of the cabin. The rear seats fold completely flat so you could use the full 81.8cu ft (2,316 liters) to fit a bicycle or similar in there with ease. If you’ve ever experienced the inside of the classic civilian Hummer, you’ll recall that its interior was as hospitable as the war zones occupied by its military ancestors. It’s not much different here, as the seating area of the cabin is similarly packaged, prioritizing practicality over comfort.

What kind of tech can we expect?

Dominating the dash is a 13.4-inch touchscreen that’s home to many functions such as Google-powered navigation as well as access to apps one would typically find on mobile devices like Chrome and Prime Video. As with all other EVs produced under the GM banner, there’s no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto overlay.

The unit itself has dedicated HVAC controls with hard switches just below for functions that demand quick access like parking sensors and hazard lights, though a majority of features require you to divert your attention to various digital menus. As it is with other GM EVs, the UI is versatile but takes a little getting used to.

OnStar-powered connectivity allows for over-the-air updates to keep all Hummers up to date, as well as retrofitting existing models with new features such as the all-new King Crab mode. Yup, your first-run Hummer can do the new thing, you just need to download it.
