Toyota Corolla review
Buying
What should I be paying?
Pricing for the Corolla starts at the eye-catching price of $22,050 that scores all the basics and starts you off with the 8in touchscreen for your interior tech needs. Other trims further add things like 18in alloy wheels and a powered moonroof, topping out at $27,150 for the Corolla XSE. That also throws in heated sport seats and a handful of stylish accents.
For the Hybrid, that’ll start out at $23,500 and will progress similarly throughout the trims, adding bits here and there until it peaks at $27,250 for the Hybrid XLE lineup-topper. It’s worth mentioning there are also Nightshade trims for both gas and hybrid Corollas that bring unique blacked-out elements to the car like smoked badging as well as bronze-finished wheels for a little extra pop.
The highest we’d go for the Corolla would be the Hybrid SE, which nets buyers enough for the full Corolla experience, for what it’s worth, which is $28,435 so long as we’re counting. That’s all the standard hybrid gear plus the blind spot monitor with cross traffic alert, powered moonroof and wireless charging pad for a phone up in the cabin.
For the hybrid, expect to get your money’s worth by avoiding the gas pumps, thanks to its 43-50mpg fuel economy estimate. That difference between the two numbers depends on trim and if AWD is included.
Beyond the hybrid, the $24,490 SE Corolla would be the sweet spot in terms of keeping the cost as low as possible while still collecting everything the Toyota has to offer. You even get decent gas mileage. All this and the added comfort of the connected services thrown in will score you a car that should easily serve you well beyond its 10-year free subscription.
