What should I be paying?
Given the headline specs, surprisingly little really. It's big, quick on the road and quicker at the charger. Spec includes all the driver assist, a heat pump, vehicle-to-load and an 18-speaker stereo. The front seats adjust electrically and are heated and fan-cooled. The rear ones are heated. The door handles pop out when you unlock.
In light of that, £39,995 for the standard range and £44,990 for the long range is sharp pricing. Options are few: metallic paint, glass roof. A white fake-leather interior is a no-cost option.
Lease rates are £4,311 down and £479/mo for the standard range, or £4,725/£525 for the long range. Both those run over four years and 8,000 miles a year. They're very similar outgoings to a more expensive Model Y, so Tesla is evidently working its residuals better.
Now, the relationship between battery sizes and WTP range doesn't make the G6 look very efficient. But we found, at least in warm spring weather, that it does manage to get near the promise. Our figure of 3.8 mi/kWh isn't bad for a bulky crossover. It equates to 330 miles in the 87.5kWh version.
The warranty is fairly strong: five years or 75,000 miles on the whole vehicle, eight/100k on the battery and high voltage equipment, and 12 years for body rust.
Xpeng is distributed here in the UK by International Motors, the Solihull company that brings you Subaru, Isuzu and GWM. It also introduced the UK to Hyundai, and has a homologation office in China, so it knows what it's doing and has smart, independent-minded dealers.
