Jaguar GT2 XKR news - Green and Black’s… - 2009
Remember Paul Gentilozzi, the legend who took a near-stock Jag XKR to a massive 225mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats late last year?
Well, he also runs a race team in US. It's called Rocketsports, and this is its latest weapon: a Jag XKR that's set to run in the ALMS GT2 division this summer.
Looks pretty tidy, no? The Jag racer will be powered by a race-prepped version of the 5.0-litre V8 that has just hit production in the XKR and XFR and, like all GT2 cars, will be based around the same chassis as the production car, though strengthened with a steel roll cage.
The GT2 XKR will start testing this June, and Gentilozzi says he expects it to compete in its first race this July. Sadly that's too late for this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, but could we see the Jag duking it out with the F430s and Porsche 911s down the Mulsanne next year? Here's hoping.
In the meantime, here’s Jeremy powersliding an old XKR on the Pendine Sands:
