Cute! The Carice TC2 is a two-seater convertible from the Netherlands
Pretend it’s a golden summer of yore with this classically styled sports car, yours for around £40k
The (admittedly quite small) Dutch car industry is booming. This much we have deduced after the Donkervoort F22 became un-sold out earlier this year due to popular demand.
And so we bring you another Netherlands-based company that is filling up order books fast: the firm in question is Carice, makers of the TC2 convertible you see above.
Carice started out life in 2011 making electric cars to order in limited numbers, but now it has grown its operation enough to put this two-seater EV into series production.
Looks cute, doesn’t it? The car was publicly shown for the first time in its home turf last weekend, and apparently there are only ‘a few cars left’ available from the second production batch that’s due to be delivered later this year, the first having sold out.
Weighing 630kg (crazy light for an EV) and promising more than 300km of range, the TC2 can be yours for just €44,500 (about £38,650), plus tax.
Carice hasn't made further performance specs public, so we’ll just focus on what we can see in the gallery, shall we? The roof cover looks like it can be stowed behind the roll bar, while the interior shuns screens and gizmos in favour of toggle switches and lights for everything from the indicators to the windscreen washer jets. Very Caterham-esque.
A quick look on Carice’s website reveals why there’s no charging flap: the cable socket is actually located in the boot, with a handy notch cut out of the bootline so you can close it while it’s being topped up overnight. Clever.
“With the Carice TC2 we want to create art on wheels,” say Niels van Dril and Richard Holleman, founders of the company. "Elegant, environmentally friendly, agile and handmade. We distilled the car to its purest form, and everything that's in there has been created with love and an eye for detail.
“It's about feeling the ride in every fibre of your body. We're passionate about creating beautiful cars that make people happy.”

Instead of an options list Carice will let you personalise your TC2, with the body and soft top colour, wheels, upholstery, accessories, battery pack and charging gear all customisable.
The only catch is that you’ll have to stump up 75 per cent of the asking price for the deposit when you place your order. Which you’re doing right now, right?
