Dacia has slashed Spring prices to make it the cheapest car in the UK
Electric Spring now undercuts its rivals – and Dacia’s own Sandero – to become even more of a bargain hero
Dacia has announced a sizeable price cut for its all-electric Spring that – if you ignore Citroen’s Ami quadricycle – makes it the cheapest new car you can buy in the UK today!
Before the cut, Spring prices kicked off at £15,990, but we’re now told the entry level Expression Electric 70 will cost just £11,990 on-the-road. Bargain. And the Extreme Electric 100 that previously cost £16,990 will now be £12,990.
That means the Spring undercuts its little Leapmotor T03 rival (£14,495) and Dacia’s own petrol-powered Sandero (£14,765).
“Dacia has always worked hard to remove barriers to new car ownership, and with Spring’s new pricing, it takes our purpose further than ever,” said UK brand director Lina Ribeiro.
“Production efficiencies and a strong drive to continue to offer real value to our customers have helped us pass on the savings and as such the most affordable new car on the market, electric or otherwise, is one of the smartest value choices on the road today.”
This also comes after the teeny EV was given a big update late last year, with a new 24.3kWh LFP battery, much more powerful motors, uprated brakes and retuned suspension. That means the entry-level Expression Electric 70 gets 69bhp, a 0-62mph time of 12.3 seconds and a claimed range of 140 miles. We’re also told it comes with air conditioning, cruise control and rear parking sensors. All for less than £12k.
The 100 ups the power output to 99bhp (that’s 100PS in Euro speak, hence the name) and drops the 0-62mph time down to a respectable 9.6 seconds. It also adds a 10.1in infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a reversing camera and little copper accents outside.
