Formula E season five: first pics from testing

Pre-season testing kicks off in Spain ahead of the first proper race in December

  • A rookie topped the timesheets after the first day of Formula E’s season five pre-season test in Spain.

Alex Sims, racing for BMW i Andretti Motorsport, was one second faster than last year’s fastest time, despite this being his first ever Formula E drive. He clocked a lap time of 1m 17.553s around the 4km Circuit Ricardo Tormo.

Still, plenty of time for the others to make their mark. Season five’s a big one for the electric motorsport championship – as you know, the cars are faster and more powerful, meaning the mid-race car swap is no more.

It’s also BMW and Nissan’s first season in the sport, along with HWA too. Stoffel Vandoorne – currently at McLaren F1 – will be racing for the team.

Speaking of drivers, Felipe Massa returns to competitive motorsport too, joining up with the Venturi FE team for season five.
