Official: the Polestar 5 is finally here, and it’s a £90k+ dual-motor rocket ship
Polestar’s big boi four-door Porsche Taycan rival has landed at last
Buried deep within the gorgeous aluminium flanks of this new Polestar 5 lurks a 112kWh battery, a plethora of sensors, and the ability – if you tick the box for the Fast One – to warp from 0-62mph in 3.2s. Welcome to the future of Polestar.
A future wrapped around a four-door performance GT that looks very much like the entirely delectable Precept concept we first saw way back in 2020. Yup, like the biggest comic book movie teaser ever, we’ve been waiting five years for this thing.
Hence why it’s packing serious heat. There are two versions that’ll be offered in the UK, each spun off Polestar’s bonded aluminium platform bearing a pair of electric motors – one on the front axle, one on the back – that massive battery pack, 800V architecture, Brembo brakes, and a 155mph top speed.
Ah yes, speed. Plenty of it. Even the ‘entry-level’ car – that costs £89,500 and is dubbed ‘Launch edition’ – offers 737bhp, 599lb ft, passive BWI dampers and the ability to go from 0-62mph in 3.9s. Range on this lesser-powered Polestar 5 is quoted at 416 miles.
Plump for the ‘Performance Launch edition’ (£142,900) and you’ll get the full 871bhp we’ve been promised for half a decade, a mighty 749lb ft, adaptive ‘MagneRide’ dampers, a 0-62mph time of 3.2s and – predictably – less range. Just the 351 miles for this one.
That 800V tech means a 10-80 per cent charge in 22 minutes, though you’ll have to find a suitably large hose, of course. A big 350kW hose.
For a big car, because this thing measures in just shy of a Mercedes S-Class (5m), with a low nose, low height, massive glasshouse and what Polestar calls ‘minimalist’ surfacing. That Kamm-tail looks brilliant, we must say.
The front seats were developed in collaboration with Recaro, and while the rear was designed to accommodate just two derrieres, you can squeeze in one more little ‘un if you want.
Polestar’s filled the interior with lots of natural, recycled materials, and a whole lot of tech. There’s the obligatory central touchscreen – a 14.5in portrait display – along with a 9.5in head-up display, and a nine-inch display for the driver. Audio is delivered robustly via either Polestar’s own setup, or an optional Bowers & Wilkins 21-speaker system.
And the 5 is able to deliver you to your destination using ‘pilot assist’ (fancy cruise at up to 93mph), using its 11 vision cameras, driver monitor, radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Safe to say it’ll be looking at you as much as the road.

It’s the car Polestar hopes will get its ambitions back on the road after navigating choppy waters. “The Polestar 5 is a guiding star for the industry and the perfect Polestar flagship,” said big boss Michael Lohscheller.
