Set a reminder for 2026: an electric Ineos 4x4 is coming
And the patriotic, new Brit on the block will build it here… in Austria
It’s official: a battery-electric Ineos off-roader is in the works, with production set to begin in Graz, Austria in three years’ time.
The firm has signed an agreement with automotive supplier Magna to develop and eventually build the EV 4x4. So no sign of the hydrogen powertrain Ineos was looking into a while back, for now at least.
Ineos says its first electric vehicle will be smaller than the Grenadier, but will still be capable of ‘world-class off-road capability’ thanks to a testing programme on the nearby (and presumably quite steep) Schockl mountain.
The as-yet-unnamed 4x4 will be the third model in Ineos’ growing line-up, the second being a pick-up version of the Grenadier that has yet to be launched.
“This is an exciting moment for INEOS Automotive,” said CEO Lynn Calder. “Our all new electric 4X4 will be zero emission while offering customers exceptional off-road capability, without compromising on-road comfort or performance.
“Having worked together on the engineering of the Grenadier, we’ve seen first-hand the value of applying Magna’s agility, knowledge, and experience to a complete vehicle development programme. Deepening our collaboration is a natural next step as we use the Grenadier as a springboard for our continued growth as a global automotive brand with this third model line.”
