The Vauxhall Frontera is back, and this time it’s an 'affordable' electric SUV
One of the worst chapters in Vauxhall’s history returns, full debut later this year
Ladies and gentlemen, please be upstanding for the return of one of the worst nameplates in Vauxhall’s long, storied history. The Frontera has returned!
Of course, the New Frontera returns at a time when Vauxhalls are Good, and as such, this 2024 iteration won’t ride/bounce around on an old Isuzu platform but a Stellantis-shaped one. They’ve got a few, and they’re all very well sorted.
It’ll be an electric platform, because the new Vauxhall Frontera will launch exclusively as a full battery-electric SUV. It’s very early days so Vauxhall hasn’t released any powertrain or range details. Heck, not even anything on its size, either, so that image above could mean it’s absolutely massive, or absolutely tiny.
Though, judging by the actual shape itself - and the mention of an "affordable" price tag - suggests it won't be enormous, maybe a smidge more than, say, a Crossland.
Whichever size it comes in it’ll be ‘fun’, apparently. “It will have a confident character and be positioned right in the core of the market,” said Vauxhall’s managing director James Taylor.
We're promised much space and versatility, and a new, 'rugged' interpretation of the company’s new design language, so you can expect much VIZOR.
Also expect much less rubbishness. Despite a handsome body shape and the promise of adventure, the original Nineties Frontera was... let's diplomatically say 'beset by a myriad of problems'. Surely the new car will be leagues better?
