The Zeekr 7X is a handsome mid-size SUV that’s quicker than a Cayman GT4
And all while providing enough space and tech to give European rivals something to think about
A new day, a new five-seat mid-sized SUV. This time it’s the ‘7X’ by Zeekr, which will take the fight to the Europeans with some rather large numbers.
It’ll be powered by a set of silicon carbide electric motors and a rumoured 645bhp. Should be torque-y too, and Zeekr has also confirmed a 0-62mph time of 3.8s, which would make this near three-tonne family hauler quicker than the fleet-footed Porsche Cayman GT4.
Two battery options will be available for the 7X: an entry-level 75kWh unit providing 376 miles of range and a 100kWh pack bumping that up to 485. And since it’s fitted with Zeekr’s 800v electric architecture, a rapid 10-80 per cent recharge is claimed to be over in just 10.5 minutes... with a very fast charger of course. That’s getting very close to traditional petrol stop times.
Size-wise, it’s slightly longer (4,825mm) and wider (1,930mm) than a Volkswagen Tiguan, though the German’s 652-litre boot space is superior to the X7’s 616. Still, it’s roomy enough, and you’ll get as many as 32 storage compartments and cubbyholes for squashed receipts.
There's a bunch of tech and safety features bundled in too, which include various cameras and radars to help the car see and avoid… many things. And since the infotainment unit will be powered by a Qualcomm chip, expect it to be reasonably sharp.
Deliveries for the Zeekr 7X will begin next month in China before the global roll-out program kicks off at some point next year, by which point we'll know the other number: price.
