The new Pixo is Nissan’s take on the Renault Twingo

Has anyone warned Hyundai that Nissan is trying to muscle in on its pixel-based design language? This is the new Pixo, and we’re told by Masato Koyama, Nissan’s head of exterior design, that it features a “bold, cube-shaped silhouette”. And check out those pixelated wheels. It's still quite clearly a rebadged Renault Twingo though, isn’t it?

To that end, most of the stats you’ll have heard already. We’re talking a 27.5kWh LFP battery, an 80bhp motor driving the front wheels and around 160 miles of range on a single charge. There’s also the same 9.9m turning circle as the Twingo, and an impressive 356 litres of boot space with the sliding rear seats in their most forward position.

Unlike Renault though, Nissan will offer the 50kW DC fast charging as standard across all models. That means a 15 to 80 per cent top up takes 28 minutes. It has also bulked up the Pixo’s face, fitted new lights and dotted some smiley robot face easter eggs around the car and cabin.

That cabin is very similar to that of the Twingo and slightly posher than the new Dacia Spring’s. There’s a 7.0in driver display, and most trims will get a 10in central touchscreen that runs Google Built-in and the Gemini AI assistant.

Nissan also promises 24 different ADAS systems and hands-free parking tech. But hang on, isn’t the point of the Twingo/Pixo/Spring that it’s so compact it’s a doddle to park? It’s under 3.8m long after all.

Anyway, the Pixo will be built alongside the Twingo in Slovenia, and it should arrive on European roads in early 2027. Pricing hasn’t been announced just yet, but it’s worth noting that the Micra matches the cash price of its Renault 5 sibling, so expect to see something similar here.

The question is then, which do you think looks best, Pixo or Twingo?
