Laser-scanned Monte Carlo stages are coming soon to Assetto Corsa Rally
The 0.3 update also adds new vehicles, weather options and events
We have but one grievance with generationally good gravel racer Assetto Corsa Rally: we’d like there to be more of it. Last year’s early access release on PC was big on simulation but light on courses and cars, so it’s with the greatest of pleasure that we note an upcoming 0.3 update, which adds two new cars, new weather configurations to drive in, new event types and most excitingly, fully laser scanned stages of the Monte Carlo rally.
Rally cars have been winding their way around the affluent principality’s precarious mountainside hairpins since 1911, when Prince Albert I decided it might boost tourism to the region if a bunch of maniacs tore round its roads in the latest hardware.
Monte Carlo has been a staple of rally games, too, but this will be the first time a developer has actually gone out onto its roads and painstakingly laser-scanned it to ensure total accuracy.
AC Rally’s Hafren and Alsace were brought to the game using the same technique, so if you played it you’ll already know how detailed the results are. Likewise, you’ll be well aware how unforgiving and terrifying the handling physics are, which should go really well when you’re navigating switchbacks with a sheer drop beyond them.
When is this wondrous 0.3 update arriving? That’s the bit developer Supernova Games has yet to specify, which is a bit cruel to be honest.
Instead, the studio simply announced that the update’s “coming” via a post on X. Ah well. It’s not like we’ve mastered Hafren and Alsace yet, if we’re being honest with ourselves.
