This is not the next Subaru Impreza. It is a concept that ‘hints’ at a future design direction.

The Impreza design concept was yesterday unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show, and previews the company’s new design strategy, blending such high-minded ideas as ‘dynamic flow’ and ‘confident stance’. We say ‘mmm, tasty’.

Underneath that rather dandy new four-door-coupe stance sits a 2.0-litre boxer engine - down from the 2.5-litre of old - mated to a ‘Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission’ (CVT) and permanent all-wheel-drive, representing Scooby’s next generation powertrain. Good news, because it means the company’s brief dalliance with 2WD is at an end.

Certainly a massive improvement over the current Impreza styling, and one we can only hope makes it to production. Subaru - make it happen…
