Icon’s latest project is a retro-look Chevy Thriftmaster
Cali-based restomodders Icon 4x4 have re-built this stunning 1950s pick-up
Icon 4x4 might be better known for its ludicrously expensive and really rather beautiful Ford Bronco recreations, but the California-based restomodder is also keen on building ludicrously expensive and really rather beautiful versions of other classics.
Check out the gloriously green Chevrolet Thriftmaster above. Now, Icon has been building Thriftmasters for some time, but this is the first time a client has requested the company’s ‘Old School’ treatment. That means the design is faithful to that of the standard 1950s Chevy, and all modern bits are hidden from view.
The best of those modern bits is the engine – a 6.2-litre LS3 V8 with 430bhp and 425lb ft of torque. Nice. Said engine is then connected to a four-speed automatic gearbox and there’s independent suspension front and rear as well as hefty Brembo brakes to bring it all to a stop. Icon reckons it has the performance of a modern-day sports car, but sadly doesn’t quote any 0-60mph figures. That’s something we’d like to see.
As with everything Icon does, the Thriftmaster is hand-built and the quality of that interior with its saddle leather and original vanilla dashboard really has us questioning our career choices. How does one become a multi-millionaire tech magnate, anyway?
There are some creature comforts in there too, with a Bluetooth audio system, a new air-conditioning unit and upgrades to all of the original Thriftmaster components.
The cost for all this stunning design? A lot. Icon won’t say how much this one cost its lucky new owner (it was built to order), but we can guarantee it wasn’t cheap.
Like it, Internet? Or would you still be picking a Bronco over this?
