Aston Martin wants to win the 2025 Le Mans 24hrs with these V12 Valkyries
Yep, these AMR-LMH cars look… proper. Imagine how they’ll sound at 2am
Aston Martin is returning to the top tier of Le Mans next year with a pair of specially prepared Valkyrie hypercars, and, yes, us too. Because they’re both packing massive V12s that’ll likely sound excellent at 2am on the Mulsanne Straight.
Announcing its entry into the 2025 FIA WEC season, Aston will attempt to win outright at That French Circuit for the first time since the gorgeous DBR1 did it back in 1959. Heck, Aston’s been racing at Le Mans since the late 1920s, so it’s got plenty of steel and carbon fibre in the game.
It’ll partner with works partner Heart of Racing, the entry coming after the ACO and FIA today said each participating manufacturer had to field at least two cars in the Hypercar class from next year.
“We intend to put two Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH hypercars on the grid to compete alongside a fantastic array of the world’s best sportscar manufacturers,” said Aston’s endurance motorsport boss Adam Carter.
As such, both Valkyries will carry the same 6.5-litre V12 that features in the road car – where it revs to 11,000rpm – here tuned to incorporate Balance of Performance regs. The hybrid system’s been ditched for the race car, so it’s a straight-up V12 screamer.
Apparently development of both cars is already “well advanced”, following tests at Silverstone and Portimao.
And it means that as of 2025, Aston Martin will have racers competing at all levels of sportscar and GT racing – Hypercar to GT4 – and of course, Formula One.
Though, we suspect these Valkyries will sound slightly better at 2am on the Mulsanne Straight than Aston’s F1 car.
