Question of the Week: which car should make a comeback?
Following the reborn Renault 5, we want your suggestions on an ideal reboot
The Renault 5 is a remake done right, thanks in part to retro design, a lovely cabin (with that all-important baguette holder) and competitive pricing. It even scooped our 2024 Car of the Year award, and is confirmed to be getting a 500bhp reboot of the much-loved Turbo. Oof.
Which got us thinking: which other cars deserve a proper follow-up act, and how best to go about it? That’s what we want you, dear reader, to tell us in our latest Question of the Week.
Let’s get the ball rolling with one that’s already been teased: the Mazda RX-7. The suspect in question is called the ‘Iconic SP’, and it retains the sleek proportions, curved body panels and low stance that made the Mk3 such a fan favourite. The preview even hints towards a twin-rotor forming part of an electric powertrain. Tasty stuff.
Or how about the Esprit? Lotus is a brand which seems at a bit of a crossroads right now. It made its name with lightweight, driver-focused vehicles like the Elan and Elise, but its current line-up couldn’t possibly be more different from those two. Is it time for the Esprit badge to return and help Lotus find its feet again?
Over to you then, reader: what’s the car you most want to see return, and why? Leave your comment below, and we’ll feature it in our usual Friday round-up if we think you’ve made a strong enough point.
