This classic 'self-driving car' is up for sale: it's Hasselhoff's replica KITT from Knight Rider
Leather jacket? Check. Blue jeans? Check. All that's missing is a talking car…
Prepare thine finest mullets and tight leather jackets, friends: the star car from telly's Knight Rider - KITT - is heading to auction.
At first glance, a slightly battle-scarred Pontiac might seem out of place among the usual million-pound exotica at Broad Arrow’s upcoming Zürich auction. But this particular Firebird spent the 1980s chauffeuring David Hasselhoff himself between promotional tours, TV appearances and even his own rock concerts.
Built to replicate KITT from the show, it comes complete with all the futuristic 1980s bells and whistles, lovely yellow velour seats, and a gullwing steering wheel from before Tesla made it uncool. Pop-up headlights are always a bonus, too.
It's worth noting the dashboard's a bit of a Christmas tree. Or, to quote Michael Knight himself, "Darth Vader's bathroom". Not to worry though, that's just the scanners.
And because every great TV car deserves an equally great backstory, this one was reportedly stolen in Italy during the 1990s before being recovered by Interpol and returned to its owner. A group known as the 'Knight Rider Historians' (yes, that’s a real outfit) has since inspected and verified it as the Hoff’s car.
Sadly, extensive modifications mean it's not road legal, but on the bright side, you do get a boot full of memorabilia thrown in with the car, including photographs of the Hoff astride the replica KITT, perfect for your bathroom wall.
So, 'keep your scanners peeled' when this lightly famous machine goes under the hammer next week for an estimated £227,000-£454,000.
