This electric Jaguar E-Type has up to 250 miles of range
British company Electrogenic offers EV E-Types with up to 400bhp and 250 miles of range
Welcome to another electrified classic, this time from a British company called Electrogenic. We’re promised its Jaguar E-Type conversions “retain the character of the original car” and are “fully reversible”. Good news.
There are three options. Go for the ‘Tourer’ conversion, and your E-Type actually ends up lighter than when it left the factory. No word on power, but Electrogenic puts the range at around 150 miles and the top speed at 100mph. Drive is through the E-Type’s original transmission, so it ought to be move involving to pedal than a typical point-and-squirt EV.
The ‘Sprint’ conversion weighs about the same as a normal E-Type, and like the Tourer keeps the original gearbox and claims around 150 miles of range. Gets more power though – we’re told “this conversion exceeds the original quoted E-Type performance figures” with 347lb ft of torque. Electrogenic recommends people going for this option upgrade their suspension and brakes too.
Lastly you’ve got the ‘Grand Tourer’ option, which ditches the old transmission in favour of a more EV-typical single-speeder. In this configuration the E-Type makes 402bhp and 443lb ft. You get up to 250 miles of range if you go for the optional range extender (presumably just…more battery).
Prices start at £54,000 for the Tourer, £62,000 for the Sprint and £80,000 for the Grand Tourer. And yes, you will need to supply your own donor car.
Not a bad solution if you’ve got a decrepit, part-restored E-Type laying around and can’t find an engine with which to equip it.
