Doctors have been called in following an uncontrollable and ongoing fit of laughter that has consumed Formula One driver Sergio Perez.

The former Red Bull pilot, who helped Max Verstappen to his maiden world title in 2021 by holding up Lewis Hamilton, unexpectedly began laughing while watching the 2025 F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

His family have now called in medical professionals in fear that Perez might never stop laughing.

“It was a normal Sunday afternoon,” a source close to the Mexican star said. “Perez was doing his American homework ahead of next year, furiously attempting to understand spray cheese and ‘The Super Bowl’, while the Abu Dhabi season finale was on in the background.

“He gave it a few cursory looks and shakes of his head, but then suddenly at around lap 23 he just burst out laughing.

“He laughed so hard he fell off his reclining Cadillac-branded armchair and rolled onto the floor. He’s been in hysterics ever since.

“Now, he just keeps rewinding back to lap 23, pointing at the screen, and laughing.

“We’ve tried everything, from replaying his crashes at Monaco, and Baku, and Mexico, and Italy, and Hungary, to reading out his points tallies versus Verstappen when they were teammates.

“The only thing that stuns him into a brief, chilling silence – the kind of deep, soul-searching quiet you see in movies when all hope is lost – is when we tell him he’ll run a Ferrari engine and gearbox next year.

“But then he just rewinds back to lap 23 and off we go again. We might need to call in an exorcist,” the source added.
