Few cars have brought Formula One technology to the road. A good few, of course, like the Ferrari F50 and McLaren F1 and Mercedes AMG One and Aston Martin Valkyrie to name but four. The first one however, was conceived way back in the 1930s, and it's only just been finished.
Auto Union (now rolled into the Audi brand) came up with the idea to clothe its Grand Prix cars in sleek bodywork and sell them to rich folk. It never got beyond the sketch phase however – until Audi Tradition recently pulled out the original plans and decided to build the car, with every single part utterly bespoke.
This then, is the priceless Auto Union Type 52, the newest, oldest ‘F1 car for the road’. And it's quite special...
