Access all areas: take a look at Bugatti and Rimac boss Mate's personal car collection

Ever wondered about what Mate Rimac’s favourite room in the factory is? Why, it's his personal garage, of course...

Follow Mate Rimac on Instagram and you’ll see he spends plenty of time in hypercars old and new. Deep within his new ‘Campus’ factory, he wants to show us his garage.

Inside we find his wife’s VW Beetle Cabriolet and his Porsche Carrera GT. He’s also bought a second segment of the early 2000s Holy Trinity, the McLaren-Mercedes SLR. “I bought it because I had a poster of one when I was a kid and thought it was the coolest looking car ever.” I politely note I’ve driven an SLR and thought it was terrible. “Oh for sure,” he agrees. “The brakes are numb, the gearbox is s***. I rang up McLaren and asked if they were all as bad as mine.”

Elsewhere there’s a BMW M3 CSL (one of two he owns), a VW Golf MkV R32, a V8 BMW M3 and a BMW E30 M3 – Mate’s dream car when he first started tinkering in his garage. There’s also a Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 which he’s storing for a mate. It’s all delightfully informal.

“Everyone in the factory is free to use the cars,” he says. “Sometimes I come in and I’m like ‘Oh, where’s that today?’ The guys have already used the supercars for weddings.” I nod at the jewels in the crown, the pairing of a Pininfarina Battista and an Aston Martin Valkyrie Spyder. “I have those because I wanted a copy of every car Rimac has contributed technology to,” Mate smiles. “It could become an expensive hobby.”
