Diablo at 35: here are 24 pictures of Lambo’s glorious supercar
Celebrate 35 years since the Diablo landed by staring at lots of them. Look: scissor doors!
What makes a good bedroom wall poster car? It’s gotta be fast. Look good. Preferably hail from Italia. And take the form of a scissor-doored supercar. Mercifully, the Lamborghini Diablo is all of those things.
It's also 35 years old. Lamborghini first revealed the big boi back in 1990 with high expectations as the Countach's replacement. And it didn’t disappoint, chiefly because it had a 202mph top speed. That meant it was the fastest road car in the world at the time. Mic drop moment.
Oh sure, there was much more Serious Supercar Stuff, like a tubular frame, an aluminium and steel body that included carbon fibre inserts - a first for a road car - and a hearty 5.7-litre V12 engine in the original with 485bhp.
But what helped cement the Diablo’s legend was the design, most notably in the shape of its excellent scissor doors. They’re the best kind of doors.
Potentially fun fact: production of the Diablo ended in 2001, and Lamborghini shifted 2,903 in those 11 years, with red being the most popular colour (550 of the 2,903). We reckon a yellow one would be the better colour for a bedroom wall poster, though.
