The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision is a homage to Jacky Ickx’s career

Midnight Blue paint and gold alloys applied for what it’s unsurprisingly calling the ‘Tribute Concept’

Published: 12 Apr 2024

Genesis has just made a version of its X Gran Berlinetta that pays tribute to six-time Le Mans winner and Formula One royalty, Jacky Ickx, and it’s called… the ‘Tribute Concept’. Who could’ve possibly guessed?

Finished in a shade of Midnight Blue and accented by a singular white stripe - which was the same design Ickx adopted on his racing helmets - the Tribute Concept was originally unveiled last year when it became Genesis’ contribution to Gran Turismo’s ‘Vision’ series of cars. You know, that competition-that’s-not-a-competition where manufacturers let their spotty interns go a bit crazy for an afternoon with their designs?

The other notable change from the original is a fancy set of gold-painted alloys, while out front there's a single-bar headlight whose lower section crests towards the curved grille, and sits just below the fissured bonnet.

The indentations continue right across the rest of the car, with deep openings along the flanks and the rear three-quarters, where you’ll spot an arched wing and JGTC-inspired vertical exhausts.

Power is provided by a hybridised V6 which chucks out 1,071bhp and 986lb ft of torque. Given the mid-mounted unit can stretch its legs to a redline of around 10,000rpm, it should at least provide a similar decibel count to the machines Ickx is used to… if it ever became a functioning vehicle.
