Look at these six special-edition McLarens

US McLaren dealer commissions cars to celebrate brand's racing heritage

  • Welcome to some special-edition McLarens, this time commissioned by the brand’s official dealership in Beverly Hills rather than any one individual. ‘Racing Through the Ages’ is a collection of six cars split into three pairs, each containing a 570S and 570S Spider. Each pair is supposed to celebrate a different part of McLaren’s racing heritage, from the early days of Bruce McLaren’s career to modern-day Formula One.

Each car in the collection gets a special MSO rear-wing, which is fitted at the dealer rather than the factory, and GT4 racing stripes. They also get black wheels, a fruity MSO titanium exhaust and lots of blacked-out trim pieces. Inside those stripes are carried over onto the seats, there’s special stitching and dedication plates that read “1 of 6: Racing Through the Ages”.

  • Muriwai

The (very grey-looking) white cars are named for the New Zealand beach, where Bruce McLaren competed in his first race aged 15.

  • Muriwai is also the name of a house he built in Woking, which he painted white with blue shutters. The end-plates of the rear-wing feature the “Speedy Kiwi” logo in orange.

  • Papaya Spark

This is an evolution of the colour Bruce McLaren painted his racing cars in the Sixties and Seventies, and is the very same colour in which the company’s modern-day F1 cars are finished.

  • These 570s get blue rear-wings, just like those old racing cars.

  • Sarthe Grey

This colour celebrated McLaren’s win at the Le Mans 24hrs in 1995, when the F1 GTR finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th.

  • The rear-wings of these 570s have ““24 HEURES DU MANS – WINNERS 1995” script in white lettering.
