This wild Bentayga X Concept previews a proper off-roading Bentley

Bentley wants a jacked-up Bentayga as a proper production car, but it needs your feedback first

Bentley already sells the Bentayga SUV in multiple forms. As well as the £170k-ish ‘standard’ car, there’s also the Extended Wheelbase for maximum rear-seat space, the Mulliner for maximum luxury and the Speed for maximum erm… speed.

But the Brits reckon there’s space for just one more niche, so it’s time to say hello to the Bentayga X Concept. Launched at the FAT Ice Race in Zell Am See, this ruggedised concept apparently “explores the potential of a more focused off-road Bentley”.

So yes, something like this could actually reach production. In fact, Bentley says this concept has been “developed to stimulate and gain feedback for an enhanced off-road capable Bentayga”. Like it? Better let Bentley know ASAP.

The X Concept is based on a Bentayga Speed too, so at its heart is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sending 641bhp to all four wheels. The ride height has been increased by 55mm for more travel in the air suspension, and that ups the wading depth to over 550mm. The track width has also been upped by 120mm, and there are new 22in forged wheels from Brixton. That’s the LA-based wheel company, not the gentrified area of South London.

Those rally-spec wheels are wrapped in chunky off-road tyres, and the wheel arches have been extended outwards by 40mm to help the toughened-up look. There’s also a roof rack up top, twin towing eyes in the front bumper and a titanium sports exhaust from Akrapovic round the back. This is our kind of Bentayga.

Bentley says this thing also kicks off a “new multi-year brand partnership with FAT International”, but it’s the fact that it could actually make production that has got us all excited.
